City College Norwich new Creative Arts Building was built with a distinct Norfolk-barn-style design at the Southern end of the College’s main campus. The building was designed to support the College’s vision to deliver an outstanding and innovative creative arts programme and houses performing, digital and traditional art studios and classrooms across three floors.
Bluespace were tasked with space planning and supplying the accompanying furniture for six rooms including a music room with a bespoke benching system for Mac computers as well as musical keyboards.
Benching was used throughout the rooms to provide desk space for traditional working and computing. Due to the unusual shape of the rooms, corner desks and stand-alone desk units were also added to certain rooms to get maximum use of the space. Brightly coloured desk screens were used in some rooms to add a little fun to the design in addition to providing privacy for students.
The Creative Arts building was opened in September 2013, just in time for the new term to start!
The team at Bluespace are professionals from design right through to the installation team on site. Furniture decisions can be quite stressful but Bluespace led us through the choices, worked with stakeholders and kept within our budget. The Centrum on the Norwich Research Park was a challenge – the space performs lots of functions: a busy café-restaurant, a place for a private chat or to work on the laptop between meetings, a networking venue and presentation space alongside meeting rooms! Bluespace proposals made the space work for everyone. We’ve had lots of praise for the choice of furniture and I’m sure this has contributed to Centrum’s success.
